Search "how to start a lash business" and you will find advice written for states that license lash artists on their own. Florida does not. That single fact reorders the whole checklist.

1. The license you must already have

Florida requires a Facial Specialist (esthetician), Cosmetologist, or Full Specialist license to apply eyelash extensions. There is no stand-alone lash license. A lash certification, including ours, is training on top of that license, not a replacement for it. If you do not hold one yet, the Facial Specialist program is the usual route, and the lash certification comes after.

2. Add-on or new business

Because lashes fall under a license you already hold, the first question is not "what entity" but "is this a new business at all."

• Add-on. You are employed at a spa or you already run an esthetics business; lashes become one more service on the menu. Your existing structure covers it: same employer, or same sole proprietorship or LLC, same EIN, same insurance (check that the policy lists lash extensions), same booking app. This is how most Pristine graduates start, and it is the "with no money" path: the employer's licensed room, and fills that pay for the kit.
• New business. You are leaving employment to build a lash brand in a suite of your own. Now the checklist below applies.

3. Where you can work

The salon rule applies to lashes exactly as it does to facials: extensions are performed in a DBPR-licensed salon. A suite in a licensed salon, your employer's room, or your own licensed salon. 4. Sole proprietor or LLC

For a new lash-only business: a sole proprietorship needs no state filing and works for a suite renter with a small book. A single-member LLC ($125 to file in Florida) separates the business from you; adhesive reactions and eye irritation are the claims lash artists actually see, so many suite renters choose it. If you already have an esthetics LLC, put the lashes under it; do not create a second entity for one service.

5. The EIN

Free at irs.gov. If lashes are an add-on inside an existing business, you already have the number. If you are forming a new LLC, form it first and apply in the LLC's name. Details in EIN Basics.

6. Name, handle, and the fictitious name

Lash brand names are the most crowded corner of beauty Instagram. Check the handle before you check Sunbiz; if the exact handle is gone, the name is effectively gone. Trading under a brand name that is not your own legal name means a fictitious name registration with the Florida Division of Corporations ($50, five years). 7. Insurance and the local receipt

Make sure your professional liability policy names eyelash extensions specifically, because adhesive sensitivity is the standard claim. If you rent a suite, get a local business tax receipt from your county or city.
